Full Moon in Gemini 2023

November 27 4:16 AM EST

This continues to be a very busy time and it’s especially important to be ultra aware and conscious with communication now. This lunar cycle began with an intense Scorpio new moon conjunct Mars and opposed by Uranus. As the sun and Mars continue to travel closely together, we have some of these same themes active during this full moon.

The sun, at 4 degrees of Sagittarius, is conjunct Mars at 2 degrees Sagittarius and both oppose the full moon at 4 degrees of Gemini. When Mars is highly active it can have both an empowering, and inflammatory, effect. Mars is pushing us now- we may feel the desire for more physical activity or exercise, we may finally get around to those items that have been languishing on our to-do list. But similarly, Mars can be pushing us more easily into frustration, anger and even rage. It’s important now to stop, pause and breathe before we do anything we may regret.

This is especially true of anything communications related, given that Gemini is the sign of the speaker, orator, news gatherer (and sharer), and writer. Frustration is frustration (Mars) but when it boils over into how we are communicating with others then we are also in the realm of Mercury. Mercury is at 24 degrees of Sagittarius during the full moon. Mercury in Sagittarius can be a mixed bag. On the one hand, Sagittarius’ commitment to guileless directness and simple truths can be helpful and refreshing. On the other hand, it can veer easily in bluntness and rudeness. There is also the Sagittarius theatricality which can skew towards exaggeration and (when the Mars trigger finger is itchy) bombastic, confrontational and over-the-top antics (Side note: Britney Spears has both the sun and Mercury in Sagittarius). Mercury in Sagittarius can communicate, like our friend Britney, like this !!!!!!!

So with the sun, Mars, and Mercury all in fiery Sagittarius, it’s very important to recognize we may be easily triggered and go into reactivity before we realize what has even happened. Knowing this in advance can help us slow our roll. Which is important regardless, but especially because Mercury at 24 Sagittarius is exactly square to illusive Neptune at 24 Pisces. So on top of it all, we may not even be seeing things very clearly. Neptune’s action is to veil and confuse. It is nebulous and foggy.

This can play out in several ways. Whatever news/idea/communication (Mercury) is triggering us (Mars) may not even be accurate (Neptune). We may be mishearing or misunderstanding (Neptune) what is being said (Mercury). Other people may be deliberately being vague or dishonest (Neptune) when communicating (Mercury) with us. We may be telling white lies or trying to evade something (Neptune/Mercury). On a positive note we can also become increasingly aware of what is between the lines or being unsaid (Neptune) right now. Neptune is also capable of giving us very strong intuitive hits or blasts of creative inspiration.

At 24 degrees of Sagittarius, Mercury is already in the shadow zone of its upcoming retrograde which begins on December 13th at 8 degrees of Capricorn. That means that around December 27/28 Mercury will retrograde back to 24 degrees Sagittarius where it is at this full moon. So things that are going on around the time of the full moon are not quite complete yet. Mercury goes direct on January 1st and then on January 8th passes over Sagittarius 24 one final time. So we actually have a 5 or 6 week window of dealing with some of these same issues. We can expect things to smooth out after January 8th and even more after January 21st which is when Mercury exits its shadow zone. This is all the more reason to keep our tempers in check and our communications measured! While Sagittarius’ attitude is to ‘just get over it’- these aspects indicate that effects will linger.

The sun/Mars conjunction in early Sagittarius and the moon in early Gemini are also all squared up to Saturn at 0 degrees Pisces. Saturn, likewise, reminds us that there are consequences to our actions. Gemini itself, is interested in gathering information and multi-tasking, which could be a big focus for the next two weeks, but with Mars poking the bear we can easily veer into overwhelm or frustration. Saturn encourages us to slow down and focus on our priorities, bottom lines, and action steps. When we do this, we can make slow and steady progress. Both Gemini and Sagittarius tend to like to go fast, but Saturn reminds us to consider each step, and its consequences, carefully. Especially since Neptune square Mercury may be obscuring the reality of certain situations. And Saturn also reminds us that if WE are the ones engaging in low vibrational Neptunian behavior (evading, avoiding, lying) then there are consequences and at some point the truth will out. Remember this whole ‘scenario’ is not wrapped until after January 8th when Mercury passes 24 Sagittarius for its final time post-retrograde.

Venus is at 21 degrees of its home sign of Libra. Venus in Libra encourages diplomacy and harmony, and advises us to look for win-win solutions when possible. But Venus too is under some duress, approaching a square with intense Pluto at 28 degrees of Capricorn. This reminds us that it is quite simply not possible to find ‘win-win’ solutions in situations where one person may not be telling the truth (Neptune) or may be seeking to manipulate things (Pluto). In those instances, Pluto indicates that it is time to read the writing on the wall: the relationship (Venus) may need to end or serious transformations may be necessary (Pluto). Pluto does not do half-measures, so what we are recognizing and learning now (Gemini) about the relationships in our lives (Venus) may be setting us up for some big changes.

Where is the *truth* in the situation? We can come back to this again and again. Sagittarius as a sign is associated with the truth, and the full moon in Gemini is illuminating the 3 major Sagittarius planets now: the sun, Mars, and Mercury. The Gemini ability to perceive all of the possible stories and scenarios and deliberate (and choose) effectively in the midst of it all is what this is all about. What is obscuring the truth (Neptune)? And how can we take actions that are rooted in truth and are in integrity (Saturn) despite the very busy (Gemini) and potentially very triggering (Mars) energy around us? When we come back to these questions and strive to act in accordance with them, we can come out the other side of this time with a lot more clarity on which balls, and relationships, are worth continuing to juggle and which are not.
