There are lots of “firsts” on deck with Pluto now in Aquarius. Including this, the first new moon in Aquarius with Pluto also in Aquarius, in more than 100 years. The new moon, at 20 degrees Aquarius, is not conjunct Pluto, which moves very slowly and is still at 0 degrees since its ingress into that sign on January 20th. But Pluto in Aquarius still exerts heavy influence over this new moon nonetheless.
We remain in a kind of “limbo” period, where Pluto is dancing back and forth between Capricorn and Aquarius, until it fully enters Aquarius on November 19th to stay for 20 years. One of the ways we are feeling this limbo, is by still having to “clean up” unresolved issues from the past. Specifically the past 15 years of Pluto in Capricorn. So we are talking primarily about unresolved issues pertaining to our personal relationships with Capricorn matters such as business, institutions, patriarchy, the government, and authority figures.
This is highlighted in this new moon by the fact that Venus and Mars, traveling closely together at 21 and 27 degrees of Capricorn, are indeed conjunct Pluto in Aquarius. Whenever EITHER Venus or Mars are conjunct Pluto we could say this is a big deal. Especially for deeply personal matters (Venus and Mars are personal planets) around sex, money, relationships, anger, desire, and possessions. And to have them conjunct each other AND Pluto is indeed a big deal. We may be having profound Plutonian breakthroughs and transformations around these matters in the upcoming weeks.
We can especially highlight the days when both of these planets cross over into Aquarius and conjoin Pluto. For Mars that is February 13th, and for Venus that is February 16th. Then on February 22nd, Mars and Venus conjoin each other at 6 degrees of Aquarius (still conjunct Pluto). So we are deep in the midst of personal and relational situations that cannot be ignored or swept under the rug.
While Venus can try to smooth things over and “make them pretty”- Pluto cannot abide situations where the power balance is misaligned, and Mars is given to anger and outbursts. So while relationship issues have been simmering, front and center, since we began the relationship-oriented eclipse cycle in Aries/Libra with the Aries solar eclipse in April 2023, this is a major turning point in any of the situations that have been coming up for us since then. We can expect transitions now, and perhaps a whole new chapter (or updated chapter) around the time of the upcoming Aries mega eclipse on April 8th.
But in the meantime, we are poised to get some clarity around this new moon about what exactly this upcoming 20 year cycle of Pluto in Aquarius may look like for us personally. Depending on the part of our chart that Aquarius has rulership over, we are in for some deep changes, and this new moon is part of the process of revealing to us where this emphasis may be. Especially because the new moon at 20 Aquarius is closely square to one of Aquarius co-rulers, Uranus, at 19 degrees of Taurus. Uranus is the great disruptor and while its actions can feel chaotic and random, in truth it acts as a liberating agent from whatever may be holding us back.
With both Uranus and Pluto so strong now, we are supported in saying what needs to be said, and doing what needs to be done, even if it’s overdue. Perhaps unsurprisingly, communications planet Mercury is also in the mix here, at 7 degrees Aquarius and conjunct Pluto. Taking a stand for our authenticity and individuality is paramount. Aquarius is the sign of the unique individual. But it also represents the understanding that the unique individual is but one of many: that we are all part of a greater human tribe. The paradox here is that when we take a stand for our unique perspective, gifts and identity, then we are better able to find and fit into our piece of the larger collective puzzle. This is a macro trend for the next 20 years, but again we are all getting a jump start on it now during this new moon.
A great benefit of the next few months is that we have Jupiter and Saturn sextile to one another from the early/middle degrees of Taurus and Pisces respectively. This gives us a great advantage in terms of being realistic (Saturn) about the new growth and opportunities (Jupiter) that are unfolding before us. If we are overly influenced by Saturn we may be overly skeptical or plodding as we move towards the new. If we are overly influenced by Jupiter we can be foolhardy or reckless. So this is an ideal balance that helps us navigate these transitions in a measured way.
Between January 27th, when Uranus went direct at 19 Taurus, and April 1st when Mercury goes retrograde in Aries, we have ALL planets in forward motion. So we can really look at February and March as an important time energetically to prepare ourselves for the upcoming spring eclipse season and the big amount of astrological energy and change that will be on high for the rest of the year. The more we can “get done” now the better, especially again if this involves things overdue from the past, that may be tied up to Capricornian business matters. All the while keeping an eye on what this new Aquarian energy might be provoking or stirring in us that points us towards our unique and exciting place in the future.
