Lunar Eclipse in Pisces 2024

September 17 10:34 PM EST

This is our first eclipse in Pisces since February 2017. A lot has changed since then in relation to the realm of our dreams/intuition/inner world- the domain of Pisces. This applies at both the macro and micro level. Meaning that personally we have each, of course, had meaningful changes in our lives as far as what we can *intuit* about what we are feeling, what others are feeling, and the subtle stirrings that connect us to the wide world around us. On a macro level there have been significant Piscean shifts too. As a *collective* we have had increasingly potent guidance, assistance, and support from the “deeper dimensions”of reality as we navigate a time of massive transformation on the Earth. As some would say “the veils are thinning”..

This is all very Piscean. Our ability to HEAR deeply at an inner level is what helps us hear what is unsaid in the world around us, read between the lines in the situations in our lives, and connect to the intuitive soul-level knowing that we are part of a vast inter-connected web of consciousness that includes all things and may be called Spirit, God, the universe, the Divine, etc.

As we embrace this first Pisces eclipse since 2017 we are tasked with remembering some of this ancient soul level wisdom. The more we remember, the more we can see- and will be shown. We are supported and we can connect and tap into that support strongly now- and indeed for the next several years. The final Pisces eclipse is on August 28, 2026. So we have a full 2+ years of full emersion in the deep Piscean waters of our transcendent selves. And, of course, because we live at a level of reality defined through polarity, we are also working strongly with Pisces opposite sign (and complement) Virgo during this time, where other eclipses are occurring.

Eclipses act as super-charged new and full moons. This particular eclipse is a full moon lunar eclipse, so the sun is in Virgo. During new moon solar eclipses *both* the sun and moon are in the same sign. New moons, and especially solar eclipses, are potent times for new beginnings. This is especially true of the new moon solar eclipse in Aries that occurred this past April and was the most recent eclipse before this Pisces lunar eclipse. Full moons, and especially lunar eclipses, draw our attention to relationships because they emphasize the polarity/complementarity of opposites, in this case Virgo/Pisces.

While Pisces has a distinctly intuitive, and often mystical, orientation- Virgo has a practical and organizational one. What “use” are our mystical visions and deep inner spiritual knowings, if we cannot put them into effect to create tangible meaningful improvements in our lives? One could argue they are useful regardless, and we could go into a never-ending Piscean whirlpool of philosophical debate. There is merit to the notion that spiritual knowings are important and impactful regardless of how well they are applied. However, we would be remiss to not emphasize that they are *more* meaningful and impactful when they are properly understood, synthesized, digested, and thoughtfully applied. This is the work of Virgo.

So now, during this eclipse we have the sun at 25 degrees of Virgo opposing the full moon eclipse at 25 Pisces. We have even more action along this polarity. We have a near exact opposition between Mercury at 14 degrees of Virgo and Saturn at 15 degrees of Pisces. And, of course, we have Neptune at 29 degrees of Pisces conjunct the eclipse. Even though this is a partial eclipse, these are very potent aspects.

It is worth re-winding to earlier analysis of the Aries solar eclipse in April, because that was such a highly charged “fresh start” (Aries is the sign of new beginnings) that it is interesting to note that this lunar eclipse that follows it, draws our attention to the Virgo/Pisces polarity. In essence, it is saying “OK! You have sowed seeds of a new journey and have excitement and enthusiasm for a new chapter (Aries). But before you charge off too quickly- pause- listen more deeply to your inner guidance to receive its messages (Pisces) and then take the time to organize/streamline/prepare effectively (Virgo)- Then you will truly be ready to charge forth into the unknown with faith and courage!”

That is the juncture we find ourselves at now. What messages have we been getting recently that are wise not to ignore? What practical actions can we take on those nudges that can help us as far as the details, organization, health and daily routines in our lives? Virgo is always reminding us that small tweaks have a big impact. The more we can apply our knowings into 5% or 10% better effort or organization when it comes to our health, nutrition and routine we can expect big rewards for our efforts.

This is especially highlighted because of the presence of Saturn in Pisces, currently at 15 degrees, loosely conjunct the eclipse. Like Virgo, Saturn emphasizes pragmatism. But while Virgo may have a focus on the details and minutia, Saturn has a focus on the karmic big picture. Simply put, when we “ignore” the stirrings of our soul and our inner knowings about the right actions to take (or improvements to make) this actually has a weakening, or destabilizing, effect on us energetically. Conversely, when we ARE taking action in high alignment with what is best for us, and being responsible for our choices- then we are actually strengthening our entire energetic operating system. We are able to hear our knowing more clearly, and magnetize positive circumstances more rapidly. That is a lot of what this 3 year transit of Saturn in Pisces (2023-2026) is about, and some of the climax points of that transit are the Pisces/Virgo eclipses.

Neptune at 29 degrees Pisces conjunct the eclipse is also important for this. Neptune is one of Pisces’ two rulers, the other being Jupiter. While Jupiter connects to Piscean faith and generosity, Neptune connects to Piscean depths and spiritual interconnectedness. Neptune here is whispering LOUDLY in the ear of the lunar eclipse. It wants to help us hear the messages that are coming through so we can take action on them. It wants to help us remember who we are and why we are here. Interestingly, Jupiter is joining the party too.

At 20 degrees of Gemini, Jupiter is square to Neptune and the eclipse. Jupiter in Gemini is a 1 year transit that is helping us broaden our vision of what is possible by putting LOTS of options on the table. Our key to discerning which options are right for us comes back to Saturn in Pisces and our ability to listen to our soul choices and take practical action on and responsibility for those choices. So we are getting the same reminders over and over again. Communications related Mercury in Virgo opposing Saturn in Pisces during the eclipse underscores this point: We are responsible for what we think and say as well as what we do, so we must choose wisely in order to create the experience we wish to have.

Venus in Libra is a reminder that there are many perspectives on any one thing, so we must curb our attachment to “being right” or falling into polarization. Instead, approaching situations with curiosity and even-handedness serves us well in all of our interpersonal relating. Venus’ consort, assertive Mars, is in Cancer where it prefers the “wait and see” approach rather than charging straight ahead. No matter how strong our intuitive senses may be right now, we are wise to take a measured approach rather than being overly blunt, direct, or forceful.

Finally, there is a gorgeous grand trine between the sun in late Virgo, Pluto in late Capricorn, and Uranus in late Taurus. Pluto is the great transformer and since 2008 has been systematically clearing the old from our individual lives and the collective especially anywhere outdated Capricornian “rules”, traditions, and hierarchies are present. We are in the swan song of this transformational chapter as Pluto leaves Capricorn on November 19th and will not return for more than 200 years. So embracing these final eclipse season opportunities to shed the old is significant now. And with Uranus also present, we can do so with minimal fuss, drama, or sentimentalism- like ripping off a bandaid. Once it’s gone- it’s gone- and we are free!

Pluto and Uranus are not only part of a grand trine with the sun in Virgo, but are also both sextile to the eclipse. In the sky this looks rather like a “kite” pattern: large, proportionate and balanced. And astrologically kites are considering highly beneficial for transformations that are strong, stable and long lasting. In other words, once we get a handle on the messages we are receiving and how to apply them, then we have HUGE tools in our tool belt for the new and exciting that is coming just around the corner. And like a kite, we can venture into the unknown from a place that is structurally sound, but offers a maximum of flow, freedom, breeze, ease and excitement.
