Full Moon in Gemini 2024

December 15 4:02 AM EST

This playful full moon gives us a bit of a reprieve from the intensity of the past few months. The moon is in the multifaceted sign of Gemini urging us to lighten up, loosen up and explore ideas and connections that may normally not even register for us. During the next two weeks we could see our horizons broadened- in literal or metaphoric ways.

Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius, as well as the new moon in Sagittarius which kicked off this lunar month. The full moon in Gemini is conjunct Jupiter, making this a beautiful continuation of the themes of that new moon. We are primed to be looking UP now. Not sideways, backwards or into too many “tangled messes” around us. Jupiter is the sky god and has the vision to see the big picture. We are aided now in inviting more of a big picture perspective into our lives, as well as reinforcing the ideas/beliefs/trajectories/mental patterns that *support* that big picture wisdom and vision. Gemini can get overwhelmed with too much stimulation, too many ideas, too many options. But right now we can make big progress in recognizing WHICH options, ideas, etc support the vision, and which are merely distractions/habits/dead ends.

Saturn and Neptune, both in Pisces, are square to the full moon and Jupiter. Now is a crucial “vibe check” on everything that has been simmering since Jupiter in Gemini began in May 2024. And indeed all the way back to when Saturn in Pisces began in March 2023. The crystallization of a lot of the things we have been doing or working on are starting to come to fruition.

On December 24th, we have the 2nd of three exact squares between Saturn and Jupiter. The first one occurred on August 19, 2024. So we can think back to what was happening in our lives around that time and some of the same themes and situations may be re-emerging. We can take what we have learned since then and apply it wisely. This full moon is catalyzing some of those realizations and epiphanies so we can have the mental breakthroughs (Gemini) and then act on them.

We are supported in acting on our realizations through a beautiful fire grand trine. Mars retrograde in early Leo is trine Mercury retrograde in early Sagittarius, and they are both trine the North Node of the moon in early Aries, as well as Neptune in late Pisces.

This is not only a chance to zoom up to the big picture, but also to re-see and re-pair existing situations that can be shifted or re-aligned. With both Mars and Mercury retrograde, there is a bit of a “re-do” energy stirring. It’s as though Neptune and the North Node are keen to make manageable adjustments or pivots as easy and intuitive for us as possible now, so that our path can smooth out. This is very different from deep Plutonian transformations, or Uranian shakeups. Rather it is an invitation to immediate and effective tweaks or revisions in our strategy, approach and communications. Ones that put us in closer harmony with our soul path and the big new next chapter that we have been visioning and are now starting to walk (as symbolized by the major Aries solar eclipse we had in April of this year).

But the T-square between Mercury retrograde, Saturn and Jupiter is also creating some of the aforementioned “tangled messes”. All three planets are in mutable signs (as are the sun and moon right now) and at somewhat of a cross purposes. So confusion could abound and mixed messages could challenge us. This is especially true given that Mercury is the ruler of the full moon. Being extra clear, honest and precise in our communication gives us a buffer from any of the drama that could be swirling.

Venus is in early Aquarius, conjunct Pluto, and opposing Mars retrograde. This is another signature of shifts and re-alignments, especially in the realm of relationships. In early January, there will be a second exact opposition between Mars and Pluto, this time in Leo/Aquarius (their opposition in November was in Cancer/Capricorn). This will be discussed in greater detail during the next new moon reading because it falls during the Capricorn new moon lunar month. However, we are certainly already in that energy and with Venus involved here too, it’s almost a precursor to that aspect- giving us a hint now of some of the specific situations or relationship dynamics that could be playing out for us next month.

So now is the time to simply receive the Gemini messages and to look at the big picture so we don’t get mired too much in any Mercury retrograde upheavals. Again, Mercury retrograde is our ally- helping us see and perceive things differently, and make necessary tweaks. But it is up to us to remind ourselves that we want to see any situations that are unfolding from the big picture rather than getting overwhelmed or thrown off too easily by shifting dynamics or events. Then we can truly take this opportunity to pivot- and soar.
