This is a steady and stabilizing new moon that seeks to help us find our center in the midst of the massive individual and collective shifts that have been happening. This is our first new moon in Aquarius, with Pluto also in Aquarius, in our lifetime. At 9 degrees Aquarius, the new moon is also close enough to Pluto at 1 degree to be in a conjunction. So it’s not that things aren’t *moving*- they most certainly are. It’s just that Pluto’s level of transformation is DEEP, so while it begins to seriously work on us from the inside out, from it’s new perch fully inside of Aquarius (until 2044), we are being asked to not wear ourselves (and others) out running around in circles in the meantime.
Aquarius is fixed air. It is the sign of groups, collectives, technology, and humanism. Within the realm of Aquarius we find our unique authenticity that bridges us to the groups and collectives where we shine and have the most to offer (and receive). This is the positive manifestation of the Leo/Aquarius polarity. So many could be feeling called to spend time with their communities in the upcoming weeks, in person or online.
There are virtually no “negative” aspects in the new moon chart. It is a series of supportive trines, and sextiles, between the planets. The lone square is from Jupiter in Gemini to Saturn in Pisces (an aspect that has been active for about a year) and cautions us to practice discernment (Saturn) since we have many choices and options before us (Jupiter). But in the words of legendary astrologer Susan Miller, “Jupiter never afflicts”, so even while it is square to Saturn this is really just more of a reminder of how we get the best out of this year of Jupiter in Gemini : by scoping all of the options and then choosing accord to the value of how things really are, not based on their shiny surface level or “potential”.
Also conjunct the new moon and Pluto is Mercury, at 2 degrees of Aquarius. This indicates we should give special attention to communication this month. We have been going through a lot over the past few months and getting as “clear” as possible with what we have been through, or any realizations we may have had, helps. We may want to “digest” (Pluto rules the process of release and transmutation) what we have been experiencing within a safe group environment (Aquarius). This could involve talking it out (Mercury), or it could be a more mysterious/transformative/somatic experience (Pluto).
This sets us up for the bold fresh start that can also be possible with a new moon conjunct Pluto. We can be well and truly OVER things that may have felt like they have been clinging to us for way too long. The shedding and releasing can “clear” us out so that we are living more authentically (Aquarius) in our power (Pluto).
Abundant Jupiter at 11 degrees Gemini is making a gorgeous trine to the new moon and all of the Aquarius planets. “THIS!” is what Jupiter is shouting- This is feeling of freedom and liberation and true community- is what you want to choose from all of the assorted options in front of you. Anything else, anything less- just won’t do. All part of the process of becoming clear.
In addition to the stellium in Aquarius, we have another stellium (4 or more planets) in Pisces. Venus, Saturn, Neptune and the north node are all conjunct between 17 and 28 degrees of Pisces. This concentration of energy in late Pisces is an important climax of the past 2 years of Saturn in Pisces. In the spring Saturn jumps up into Aries, and then will retrograde back for its final swan song in Pisces during the upcoming fall/winter. In the meantime, before it enters Aries on May 24th, we are invited to truly get in touch with our deepest soul desires and vision for moving forward.
Piscean energy is all about the big dream. What are our big dreams? How can we use Saturn’s pragmatism and long-term vision to help us come closer to living those dreams, however improbable or unrealistic they may seem. The north node is our karmic path. The more we say yes to what our heart truly wants now, the more in alignment we become with our higher selves. Again, authenticity.
The Pisces stellium is being supported via a trine from Mars retrograde in Cancer. While this can be an emotional placement for Mars, here again it’s stirring our deepest truest desires and needs, and urging us to release what we “think” we want. Mars Rx in Cancer wants us to connect at a primordial level to what our body and energy system are crying out for in order to feel that deep sense of safety and belonging that is so human. And again, in retrograde, it wants us to release whatever does not fit the bill.
So we can allow that which we have outgrown to be washed out to sea and reclaimed. We are ready for a new chapter in our lives and while there is still an energy of transition in 2025 as several planets dance back and forth between signs, there are undoubtedly also other ways in which the old is irrevocably over, and we are clearing out and making space for the new. We can honor this new moon by listening closely to what our body is telling us, processing as needed (especially with others), and claiming a fresh beginning with our ability to be more fully and authentically ourselves.
