Full Moon in Scorpio 2024

April 23 7:49 PM EST

We are still in eclipse season, friends! It seems like ages ago now, but eclipse season this spring actually began back with the Pisces New Moon on March 10th, and does not wind up until the the upcoming Taurus new moon on May 7th. So we can think back to decisions we were making or things that were getting going in the middle of March, and we are still working through some of them. This Scorpio full moon then is like the “final course” in the eclipse meal we have been having, the final layer to integrate, absorb, digest and help us process what has been going on. The Aries Solar Eclipse was the main course ! And we will continue working on those themes for the upcoming six months. But as we wind our way down and out of eclipse season, this full moon and the next two weeks are the time to reap some of the early “rewards” that may already be on the table. But also to narrow our focus and become more deliberate about our path forward.

Scorpio is the sign of power, death, rebirth and transformation. It does not float along the surface of life, but rather prefers to plumb the deepest recesses and explore the often hidden energetic dynamics and power structures that underlie our lives, our relationships, our art, and the world at large. Scorpio hence is associated with sex, mega money, mysteries, secrets, “the underworld”, and psychology. Often we feel “compelled” to act in certain ways, to pursue certain things that we know may not be good for us but whose grip feels magnetic and intense. We can either give in unconsciously to these desires and behaviors, or we can choose self reflection and transformation and invite grace in to help us untangle the drama. This is the process of healing and transformation and Scorpio encourages this kind of introspection.

So this Scorpio full moon, coming on the tail end of a very dramatic eclipse season, is a great ally in helping us decipher and discern everything that has been kicked up over the past six weeks, so that we can bring forward what we desire from this intense and powerful time, and leave the rest behind. While the Aries solar eclipse was certainly about fresh starts and new beginnings, we are still in some ways in the “starting gate” with the new in our lives. In 2024, Pluto is still dancing back and forth between Capricorn and Aquarius, before it fully takes up residence in Aquarius in November for the next 20 years. So we still have one foot in the past and one foot in the future. But this full moon is a powerful time to help us with the shedding part of the process, so that we are as light on our feet, and mentally tough, as possible when things do start moving quickly.

The moon is at 4 degrees of Scorpio opposing the sun at 4 degrees of Taurus. The sun in Taurus is out of range of conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus at 22 and 21 degrees of Taurus respectively. But the exact Jupiter Uranus conjunction, which occurred on April 20th, just before the full moon, is still very much ringing in the air. The Jupiter Uranus conjunction is like a live wire of electrical energy and upgrades that are helping liberate us from outdated ways of living and engaging with the world. This beautiful conjunction, at the tail end of the year long transit of Jupiter in Taurus, is bringing us some of the gifts and blessings that we have been sowing seeds of over the past year.

So there are a lot of potential gifts and blessings on the table for us now, as the Taurus/Scorpio polarity is associated with pleasure and the material realm, and abundant Jupiter is a strong presence at the full moon. We could very well liken this to the “gifts” or allies that are presented to a “hero” (Aries) that is about to embark on a new quest (Aries Solar Eclipse). The hero needs the special gifts, the talismans, tokens, tools- the ones that are just right and custom for them- in order to best succeed on their quest and journey. Likewise, we need to receive and PERCEIVE the gifts, blessings, allies that are on offer for us now. That is where we can use the famous Scorpionic skills of observation and discernment. They will be important is easing our journey forward.

Mars, the ruler of the Aries solar eclipse, is also the co-ruler of this Scorpio full moon, along with Scorpio’s other ruler, Pluto. They are both dramatically positioned during the full moon. Mars remains in Pisces, just as it was during the eclipse. Now at 24 degrees of Pisces, it is nestled between Saturn at 16 degrees and Neptune at 28 degrees. Saturn and Neptune are very different planets, yet there is a cohesive story happening here. Saturn in Pisces from 2023-2026 is a major lesson for all of us in getting in alignment with our highest karmic soul path, and also in understanding our boundaries and the “energetic architecture” that underlies some of our internal subconscious world. These lessons are invaluable so that we can make adjustments, shift and pivot accordingly. Of all the signs, mutable water Pisces, can adapt and change most easily, so we have an opportunity here for “restructuring” (Saturn) on a very primordial cellular internal (Pisces) level. Neptune has been in Pisces much longer than Saturn has, since 2012, and in 2025 finally begins dipping its toes in Aries. So we are getting towards the tail end of Neptune in Pisces, which likewise has been a time of deep internal spiritual reawakening. The outer planets, like Neptune, have a generational impact, so we can see clearly now how much Piscean “spiritual material” has been kicked up in the collective since 2012 and the explosion of interest in these topics and techniques.

Mars conjunct both Saturn and Neptune during this full moon is akin to the notion of having your “feet on the ground and head in the clouds”. If approached in this manner it is a huge advantage and blessing, because again, if we consider ourselves to still be in the starting gate with “the new” that we are working towards creating in our lives, then we want to be as capable, strong, well-positioned as possible in all ways to charge forward (Mars) for maximum success when we get the green light. And the counsel provided to Mars here by Saturn and Neptune is both highly strategic/practical/timely (Saturn) and timeless/mystical/divinely guided (Neptune). Mars is capable of integrating and applying both now, and this will serve us very well if we can absorb the information and lessons. Usually Mars just wants to GO, but it is not until after Mars passes Neptune and enters Aries on April 30th that we will really be well positioned to “make big moves”. In the meantime these Saturnian and Neptunian lessons for Mars are very valuable.

If, however, we are not approaching our new beginning with quite as much introspection and patience we may experience the less helpful manifestations of Mars conjunct Saturn and Neptune. Saturn can be associated with rules, authorities, delays and restrictions. We could be held back from what we are trying to do, or bogged down by bureaucratic red tape. Or Neptunian interferences could be derailing our progress. Things getting lost, “slipping through the cracks”, misunderstanding, avoidance or even deceptions. Neptune can confuse and cloud our path, which likewise is a hindrance to Mars. So if we can accept that it is wise to wait until after March 30th when Mars enters its own sign of fast moving and direct Aries to make major decisions or forward pushes, we can save ourselves drama and potential delays. Instead we can attune our sensitve Scorpio full moon ear to the helpful guidance of Saturn and Neptune and “program” our Mars with this information as a resource for the path forward.

Speaking of Aries, we are still very much in the thrall of the Aries solar eclipse, as discussed, and there is a highly potent stellium of planets in the middle degrees of that signs: Venus, Mercury retrograde, the North Node, Eris and Chiron are all conjunct between 15 and 24 degrees Aries. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and the “I AM” self. It is the most primordial basic part of us that wants to push forward into the unknown, without too much planning or demands, for the sheer enjoyment of experiencing what we desire. We are being redirected back towards those primal desires and instincts in ourselves. I won’t get too deep into the Aries aspects but much of these themes are laid out in the Aries solar eclipse post and again, this is the dominant energetic of the next 6 months so it’s worthwhile to spend some time with these Aries lesson.

Pluto, Scorpio’s other ruler, and hence the co-ruler along with Mars of this full moon, is at 2 degrees Aquarius. This is significant for several reasons. First of all, Pluto is stationing about to go retrograde on May 2nd so it is highly powerful. Pluto is also very significant now since it is square to the full moon. A fixed sign square like this is between the sun/moon/Pluto can feel intense. The fixed signs tend to resist change. But since there is so much active Cardinal energy (Aries) strong right now, and we are wanting to embark on new adventures, we have to recognize where change is necessary. And we have to be willing to receiving the insights, and make the shifts and adjustments, that Mars/Saturn/Neptune/Pisces is encouraging us to make. Pluto here shows us where things have run their course and it is best for us to accept change rather than continuing to try to “improve” the situation. We may need to fully release and move on. This is the energetic death cycle of Scorpio. When transformation is not possible, release becomes necessary. And that can be uncomfortable. Especially if this is connected to a relationship, as may be likely with the other big eclipse of this eclipse season being the relationship-oriented Libra lunar eclipse. So we can be gentle with ourselves during this process, and tend lovingly to our bodies and our needs – as the sun in Taurus is helping us to do.

When we can allow the intuitive Pisces messages that we are getting now, receive the (maybe unexpected) gifts that are being offered that will help us in our journey, and accept the endings or transformations that are necessary- we will have very effectively used this Scorpio energy at the end of eclipse season. And we will be very well positioned to make strong moves once Mars is feeling more liberated next month.
