This is an exciting, optimistic, and growth-oriented new moon. After two long months of eclipse season which began on March 10th with the Pisces new moon and encompassed the Libra lunar eclipse and mega Aries solar eclipse, we are finally on the other side and ready for a new experience. And this Taurus new moon delivers!
The sun and moon are united at 18 degrees of Taurus conjunct Venus at 10 degrees, Uranus at 22 degrees, and Jupiter at 25 degrees. This stellium in Taurus can be seen as a climax of the past several years of Taurus/Scorpio eclipses and the transit of Jupiter in Taurus which began in May 2023. Between late 2021 and late 2023 we had a number of eclipses in the Taurus/Scorpio polarity which forced us to reconsider our values, priorities, resources, and who and what we truly trusted and wanted to invest in. For many this led to radical shifts in the orientation of our lives. This led naturally into the next energetic phase (which we are currently in) of eclipses in Aries/Libra, where our relationships and sense of identity are altered and upgraded based on these Taurus/Scorpio insights and pivots.
When Jupiter entered Taurus in May 2023, towards the end of the Taurus/Scorpio eclipse cycle, it was like a parting gift, helping us see that whatever we may have felt we were losing or shedding (Scorpio), there is always going to be new growth in our lives. Jupiter in Taurus has been an invitation to help us be more deliberate, consistent, and nurturing in what we are cultivating in our lives, so that we can reap the satisfying rewards.
It feels like a celebration of this period of new growth and new beginnings to have a new moon in Taurus conjunct Jupiter (and Uranus and Venus as well), just before Jupiter leaves Taurus and moves on into Gemini on May 25th. We are honoring the shifts that have happened for us over the past year, and several years. This is important! If we are constantly focused on what is next we forget to appreciate how far we have already come. We forget to stop and smell the roses along the path. But this new moon insists that we do just that! Relish in the beauty and delight of our environment, our relationships, and the joy of being alive.
These things are top priorities of high vibrational Taurus, and of its ruler, sensual Venus. And since Venus is also in Taurus, and conjunct the new moon, these themes are magnified. And Jupiter itself is a magnifier of energy, so the MAGICAL GARDEN experience of this new moon can be dramatic and palpable.
What do we want to celebrate ? What have we been cultivating that we want pluck and savor and enjoy from our garden ? A new relationship perhaps. A lucrative new business opportunity. A greater sense of peace and calm in our bodies. Revived inspiration and optimism. These are signatures of Venus and Jupiter in this earthy and sensual sign.
We also have Uranus at the party. Uranus has been in Taurus since 2018 shaking the very foundations of what it means to be rooted and grounded in our lives and our world. As the fixed earth sign of the zodiac, Taurus is the most resistant to change and disruption that is not self-initiated. But we have all been being asked to see things differently and experience things differently with Uranus in Taurus. We have been asked to update, upgrade, and modernize our relationship with our resources, with our environment and with our sense of personal worth and value. This is no easy task! But now, at this new moon and during the upcoming lunar cycle, we are being reminded to pause and celebrate our victories and how far we have come.
The new moon is bolstered by a close sextile to karmic Saturn at 17 Pisces. Saturn too is a voice of encouragement to help us identify the tangibles that are surrounding us and supporting us. Saturn is rational and pragmatic so it is giving us assistance to help us select the most OPTIMAL fruits, at the right time. Jupiter’s exuberance can be hasty and clumsy, and Venus can be overly focused on appearances and pleasure. But Saturn is mature and discerning. It helps us take honest inventory and to identify and pursue the most beneficial and satisfying choices and options that are on the table for us. It plays the long game, and so we should consider this even-handed approach now too.
Mars is exalted in its home sign of Aries. Mars entered Aries on April 30th, giving us another fresh burst of energy and momentum. We have been making big strides in our sense of confidence, self direction and independence, as was highlighted during the Aries solar eclipse on April 8th which remains influential throughout the summer. We are ready to show up authentically in a whole new way. Mars in Aries prompts us to go for what we want without overthinking things! And this Taurus new moon is part of that process.
Communications planet Mercury is also in Aries, and at 21 degrees of that sign is exactly conjunct the healing asteroid Chiron. This is a gorgeous aspect that reminds us that when we show up authentically and communicate from the heart, it has a healing effect on us and everything that we encounter. Mercury in Aries can be prone to anger and outbursts but Chiron is like a soothing balm that helps calm us when these impulses arise. We can begin to have better discernment about what is worth taking a stand for, and how to do that effectively, and in what situations we are better served by allowing others “to win”. This is all a part of participating joyfully in our “garden” and healthy interdependence and relationships with others.
Finally, we have Neptune which has recently reached the very last degree of Pisces. Neptune’s journey through Pisces began in 2012 so this has been a long journey. Neptune will still retrograde back to earlier degrees of Pisces beginning in July, so it is not yet in its swan song on the way out the door, but this position at the final degree of Pisces is significant. The final degree of any sign, 29 degrees, is known as the anaretic degree and has special significance. This critical degree has an effect of being a kind of culmination and *accumulation* of all of the energy of that sign. It’s as though once a planet reaches the anaretic degree, it wants us to “get the message” about anything and everything that has been coming up so it can act in loud and unpredictable ways to catch our attention. Neptune is the co-ruler of Pisces (along with Jupiter), and is connected to the ethers of psychic and subconscious intuition and information. We have had no shortage of deep information moving through the airwaves, and through our systems, so this new moon is likewise a chance to check in on what are the most significant messages we need to receive. Especially ones that may help us make choices about what we want to harvest, or manifest, in our lives right now. If we take time to journal, meditate, and contemplate we may get some very interesting answers.
Overall this new moon is exactly the kind of positive springtime buzz that enlivens and reinvigorates us for what is possible right now. We live in a cyclic universe and there are opportune times for everything. After so much change and transition recently, we are in an opportune time for celebration, harvest and enjoyment- so we are well served by giving ourselves a chance to honor our unique path and what we have been cultivating in our lives.
