Full Moon in Sagittarius 2024

May 23 9:53 AM EST

There is a kind of fated quality to this full moon, whereby something potentially quite wonderful and expansive, enters our lives. There are 3 planets – Venus, Jupiter, and Neptune- all at the 29th degree, the anaretic degree. This is a degree of karma, fate and significance. It is the final degree of each zodiac sign and in some ways it carries the weight of the entire sign. If the 0 degree point of each sign is the pure, concentrated, undiluted “original template” of each sign, which encourages exploration of that archetype with “beginners mind”.. The the 29th degree is the culmination point, the “hail mary” last effort, and most complex and potentially cathartic expression of the sign.

So at this full moon, in expansive and optimistic Sagittarius, we have a chance to glimpse or experience something quite exciting or profound. Sagittarius itself is the archetype of the explorer so we may need to leave our comfort zone behind in order to full accept and delight in whatever is unfolding for us.

Neptune is at 29 degrees Pisces. Being very slow moving, Neptune will remain there STATIONING for 4 months. Neptune entered 29 Pisces on May 3rd. It will turn retrograde at this degree on July 2nd. Then it will finally retrograde back to 28 degrees on September 3rd. The degree where a planet changes direction is know as its “station” degree, and for the first time in over 100 years, we have Neptune stationing at its home sign of Pisces’ anaretic 29th degree. We already discussed how any planet at the anaretic degree is highly powerful and significant. This is doubly so if it is also stationing! This is in every way “new territory” since Neptune has not been at this degree in our lifetime.

Neptune in Pisces since 2012 has been stirring the psychic waters of the collective. And we need only look around to see how much the zeitgeist has shifted towards “spiritual matters” since that time. Neptune will begin its transition to Aries in 2025. But this is a very important 4 month span when we can “download” a huge amount of important spiritual and healing material that can help us in our lives and our journeys. Neptune is also connected to the imagination so for the creatives and artists (and everyone is indeed co-creative in their life) this is an extra special time to tune into the divine that is accessible now in perhaps a whole new way than we have experienced before, and bring that forward in our work.

Neptune at 29 degrees Pisces is exactly sextile to Jupiter and Venus at 29 degrees Taurus. Mere hours before the full moon, Jupiter and Venus had their exact conjunction. Venus is the planet of *earthly* love and beauty. While some refer to Neptune as the “higher octave” of Venus: the planet of *divine* love and beauty. So here we see again potential for tremendous creative and spiritual insights. As well as good fortune in Venus’ more mundane activities such as romantic love and financial abundance. Jupiter is the great “amplifier” of the zodiac, expanding and maximizing everything it touches, so this compounds the “luck” and good fortune we may feel around this full moon and the two weeks that follow.

The sun is at 2 degrees of Gemini, opposed by the moon at 2 degrees of Sagittarius. The sun is conjunct Sedna, the shamanic Goddess of the deep icy oceans, which recently re-entered Gemini and is at 0 degrees of that sign. Sedna in Gemini will last for several decades and is an aspect that at a personal level, urges us to hold harmony, balance, and humility as core qualities in all of our relationships and interactions. So there is a subtle message here from Sedna, opposing the full moon, that we must not betray ourselves in the face of whatever exciting “shiny new things” are catching our attention now. We must take care to ensure that there is mutual respect and clear boundaries, rather than getting too swept away with excitement or enthusiasm, as Sagittarius is sometimes want to do. The Sedna myth involves betrayal and things being “not as they seem” so we must take things one step at a time, rather than yield to the more nebulous qualities of Neptune which would have us looking through rose-colored glasses.

This is also an important theme as we are on the cusp of Jupiter entering Gemini, which occurs on May 25th. The 13 month transit of Jupiter in Gemini will bring many exciting opportunities and potentialities, but we must remain discerning and not in thrall to “fools gold”. This full moon can show us where and how we may be willing to toss our common sense to the side and see what we want to see rather than what is truly in front of us.

With Jupiter being the ruler of the full moon, since it is the ruler of Sagittarius, it has extra significance here as well. This is its swan song, its final days of Jupiter in Taurus, a sign that it will not return to for 12 more years. For the past 12 months we have been cultivating “our garden” and helping to nurture our new dreams into reality. This full moon is a parting kiss from Jupiter, again potentially bringing in some of the gifts, blessings, and harvest that we have been sowing for the past year.

Adding to the karmic theme and blessings, we have assertive Mars also strongly positioned. Mars is in its own sign of Aries, where it is very healthy, robust and confident. Mars is at 17 degrees Aries, which is just 1 degree away from the degree of the mega Aries solar eclipse that we had on April 8th. That eclipse set the energetic tone for the upcoming 5 month period, so it is still very much in effect. And it’s message was all about trusting the new path in our lives, and showing up with new people and experiences “in an upgraded way”.

So during this full moon, and the two weeks that follow, we have opportunities aplenty to do just that: to meet the new business opportunity / romantic partner / work relationship in an elevated way, demonstrative of who we are now, not who we were in the past. Mars in Aries is also conjunct the north node of the moon, another point associated with our destiny and highest path forward. So we can have some monumental breakthroughs and opportunities to put our recent growth and healing to the test.

All of this is highly supported by a perfect sextile to the full moon from Pluto at 2 degrees Aquarius. From that point, Pluto is also perfectly trining the sun in Gemini. Pluto is all about growth, evolution, transformation, shedding, and rebirth. It can teach us lessons “the hard way” or “the easy way”, depending on our own willingness to look at the situations at play and our roles in them. Sometimes this is easier to do than other times. But now we have a lot of support in looking at what can sometimes be challenging material or “tricky dynamics” from a more light-hearted perspective. Sagittarius is the sign most known for its sense of humor. Not everything needs to be so difficult or “serious”- even when Pluto is concerned! If we WANT to move on from certain old dramas or dynamics now is the time we can do that with more grace, ease, humor and lightness than maybe ever before.

“Just say the thing!” Mercury in Taurus conjunct Uranus urges us. And if we do, we may realize it really wasn’t so bad after all. We can meet *old* situations (29th degree) in a NEW way. And we can happily accept the harvest, blessings, connections and new possibilities that are coming into our lives. Venus in Taurus is all about self-worth and at 29 degrees of Taurus, conjunct Jupiter- she is saying loud and clear.. BECAUSE YOU’RE WORTH IT.. Know that you are and enjoy the fun, laughter and gifts of this special time.
