Virgo New Moon 2019

August 30 6:37 AM EST

This is a gorgeous new moon to usher us into the fall season in the Northern Hemisphere. Though fall doesn’t officially start until the sun moves into Libra on the equinox (on September 23rd), there is an undeniable ‘back to work’ energy that fills the air in early September, and this year that is preceded by the crisp and clear and Virgo new moon.

We can almost look at this new moon as the template of the highest energetic possibilities for the rest of 2019. If we can get ourselves straight this month, with what we truly desire and are ready to work hard for, then we can capitalize on the upswing of momentum for the remainder of the year.

This reason this is such a positive influence is that ALL FIVE of the personal planets – the sun, moon, Venus, Mercury and Mars- are united in Virgo. This is exceptional and rare. Better yet, this cluster of planets (spanning from 2 to 11 degrees Virgo) are filling out the final leg of a grand earth trine. Uranus at 6 degrees Taurus is in trine to Saturn at 14 Capricorn (Saturn itself is still traveling with Pluto at 20 Capricorn, just out of significant range of the Taurus and Virgo planets), and they are both in supremely positive aspect to the new moon. The bevy of Virgo planets amplifies and harmonized the Taurus and Capricorn planets. This is especially important since these planets have been – shall we say- rather disruptive over the past year.

The role of Uranus (the disruptor) in earthy Taurus, and hard-nosed Saturn and transformative Pluto in business-minded Capricorn, has been to upend the status quo- which is not always comfortable. What this new moon reminds us is that if we know what is valuable, what we care about and want to focus on refining, rebuilding and perfecting, then the changes in our life (however unexpected) can be positive blessings.

Interestingly, Saturn, Pluto and Uranus are all retrograde. And the personal planets are all direct and moving quickly. This is an indication that we should take the archetypal nudgings and intuition we have received recently and apply it practically in our day to day lives. This matches neatly with Virgo’s methodical, helpful and utilitarian nature. Act, do, move, complete, love, refine, define, complete. If you do so with a careful eye on durability and stability, you are sure to get a lot out of this time.

The only other aspect during this new moon is the square cross with Neptune in Pisces and Jupiter in Sagittarius, another aspect that has been dominating the sky for the better part of 2019. Again we see that we can find resolution and focus with the main themes and stories that have been dominating our lives for the past 6 months if we are truly willing to tease them apart and get creative in finding fresh solution. Neptune in Pisces and Jupiter in Sagittarius have been helping us connect to our inner spiritual compass, but these energies are more ethereal and optimistic than pragmatic. With the Virgo stellium joining the party, we again have the chance to take our insights and apply them.

Mercury is the ruler of this lunation, and at 2 degrees of Virgo, brings a special message. All of our dreams and desires, plans and progress, are of negligible use until we communicate them to the world. And we will be most successful in doing so in a way that is considered, thoughtful and thorough.

With so many of the aspects that characterize this year being neatly highlighted in this new moon, and in such a positive way, we are gifted now with a glimpse of the light at the end of the tunnel. It will take work and dedication, as Virgo is not afraid to put in the time and effort to make meaningful incremental progress, but if we are willing to do that, and take good care of ourselves as we do, there may be some very sweet rewards waiting for us farther down the road.
