Scorpio New Moon 2024

November 1 8:47 AM EST

This is an intense new moon that could see some fireworks over the next 4 weeks. The two rulers of Scorpio, Mars and Pluto, are in exact opposition to each other at 29 degrees of Cancer and Capricorn. The 29th degree of any sign is dramatic and climactic. And these two planets are prone to high emotions and intensity. Mars is the planet of action (and violence) and Pluto is the planet of transformation (and death). I am not saying this to be ominous or promote fear. Far from it. These horoscopes are specifically oriented towards empowerment and conscious engagement with astrology. But in looking at how the collective experiences certain transits and the potentialities of these two planets, it is impossible not to note their potentially explosive opposition. This also fits into the timeline we are facing with a fraught election in the US days later, and increasing tension in certain parts of the world. New moons are influential for the entire 28 day span afterwards (until the following new moon), so this is a general outlook for the whole of November.

So there will be conflict energy in the air and potential for surprising and dramatic current events. Pluto remains in the final degree of Capricorn until November 19th. It will not return to this sign again for more than 200 years. So this final high intensity activation in some ways makes sense. Mars is forcing matters to the surface. In the collective and in our personal lives, things that may have been simmering for a long time, maybe even going all the way back to around when Pluto first entered Capricorn in 2008, are up to be seen and SHED.

Scorpio is connected to the serpent and the phoenix. The purpose of things coming up to the surface is so they can be seen and released and healing can take place, like a wound. Often it isn’t pretty. But it may be necessary. Anger can be part of the process. Mars does not hold back. But as much as possible we should attempt to be fair and even-handed in our addressing of situations.

Despite the inherent tension in this aspect, there is a lot of support in this chart as well. It’s as though the rest of the planets are aware there could be a ‘cosmic tantrum’ and are standing by to urge us to experience what is coming up as opportunity rather than getting overly invested in any strong emotions or allowing old habits and patterns to resurface.

Neptune, at 27 degrees of Pisces, and Mercury at 28 Scorpio, are forming a grand trine with Mars. They are also sextile Pluto. This is urging us to read between the lines, and look beneath the surface. Mercury is the planet of communication and in Scorpio has its powers of perception sharpened. There is also special attention to the power dynamics at play. Neptune in Pisces is very psychically attuned. This is about *knowing*, not about “information”.

Trusting our inherent instincts about what is going on will help us feel more steady and navigate situations more calmly and deliberately. Because there will be no shortage of conflicting opinions, viewpoints, and “facts” coming from every direction.

Jupiter, the planet of abundance and expansion, is in Gemini. Jupiter in Gemini since May has been adding to our ideas and multiplying the possible choices we have before us. Now that Jupiter is retrograde, as of October 9th, it is time for us to narrow our focus and begin to eliminate the choices and possibilities that aren’t as good of a fit upon closer inspection. “Closer inspection” comes in the form of Jupiter opposite Venus in Sagittarius, and square Saturn in Pisces. This is a mutable T-square, and it’s effect is less red-hot than the Mars/Pluto opposition, but more sobering. Saturn is the ‘accountant’ of the solar system, keeping track of everything and tallying things up accordingly. Structural stability and long term integrity are crucial with Saturn.

Anything that doesn’t meet the grade now may be seen and dismissed. This could include relationships, or even material ‘investments’, since Venus is the 3rd planet in this T-square. Saturn/Venus/Jupiter has the signature of financial volatility so that can be expected as part of the tumult of this new moon cycle as well. Relationships also may face make-or-break moments, with Jupiter urging optimism and Saturn drawing our attention to red flags. We could be torn between different Geminian options. Venus in Sagittarius may have itchy feet and require space or patience.

The only major aspect that the new moon itself, at 9 degrees of Scorpio, is making is a trine to Saturn at 12 Pisces. This is comforting. Again, despite the potential upheaval now, we are being supported and urged to meet any drama with wisdom, maturity, and compassion. As the record keeper, Saturn will be standing by applauding us for such decisions.

Mercury, at 28 Scorpio, is also opposing Uranus at 25 Taurus. Half way through this lunar cycle, on November 15th, we will have a full moon at 23 degrees Taurus that will be closely conjunct Uranus. So for now, we can keep a close eye on our communication and try to avoid misunderstandings which may come back around during the full moon.

This is a time of intensity to be sure. But also of potential. If we can see the things that are coming up before us, in the collective and also in our personal lives, and try to understand what *messages* they have for us, we will be well served. Scorpio is the master alchemist. We can turn our realizations and experiences now into gold. IF we slow down and get the message, rather than being reactive or getting swept up in drama. Profound shifts and transformations can push us to the next level of our path and our healing, when we approach the unknown or turbulent, with grace, openness and curiosity. It is when WE show up differently in situations that they shift, and our experience of them is transformed. This is a gift of Scorpio. We are not waiting for or expecting others to change, we are alchemizing ourselves, and thus catalyzing energetic shifts for the positive. This is true mastery and power: the domain of Scorpio. So while the external examples of “power” may be shifting and faltering with the Mars/Pluto opposition, we can direct our focus and attention back to our own power and how we are using it. It would be a very worthwhile way to work with this potent and transformative energy.
