This is a powerful, and unpredictable, new moon that sets the energetic stage for the upcoming 4 week period. Both Mercury and Mars are now retrograde, in the temperamental signs of Scorpio and Aries, respectively. Additionally, Mercury retrograde is opposing the planet of revolution and unexpected events, wild-card Uranus. And Mars retrograde, now at 20 degrees of Aries, is creating a combative T-square aspect with the new moon at 23 degrees of Libra and the stellium of Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn spanning between 19 and 25 degrees of Capricorn. To say that this is a volatile mix is an understatement.
We must all be aware of and sensitive to our environment and the signals that we are putting out into the world. Misunderstandings and drama can flare up at any moment.
We do, however, have some positive reinforcements. There is a grand earth trine between Venus in Virgo, the three aforementioned planets in Capricorn, and Uranus in Taurus. This is having a soothing and constructive effect on the highly dominant Capricorn planets. While we have all been witnessing, and participating in, a breakdown of the old order (as symbolized by this combination), we have often felt at a loss with what to do with all of this transformative energy. Venus is our ally here, spreading her soothing balm on the situations at play by whispering Virgo’s cure-all mantra: Improve, Improve, Improve.
If we can stay away from the lower vibrational need of Virgo to refine and tinker indefinitely until it is “perfect” – then we can instead embrace constructive Virgo’s mandate to take action now to at least improve whatever is on our desk, or in our lives at this very moment. And visionary Uranus is helping us to see exactly what that is or could be. This is a wonderful blessing because things could be breaking down and breaking apart at an ever more rapid rate.
The new moon in Libra, forming the T-square as described in the beginning, is highly motivated for action. This is because the T-square is taking place in the cardinal signs, which are the most urgent in their call to action of all the signs. So we do not have a ton of patience on our side at this time.
But it is important that we should TRY to be reflective before we act. When planets are retrograde, such as Mars and Mercury are here (as is radical Uranus), they actually are asking us to re-appraise our relationship with that energetic so that we can adjust it to who we are NOW, as opposed to continuing to play out old, outdated ways of thinking and speaking (Mercury) or getting our needs met (Mars). So the more patient and reflective we can be, in the face of a huge amount of internal and external pressure to ACT or REACT, the more we can extract the alchemical gold from this period.
Indeed such huge pressure as is shown here, is also the necessary stimulus and conditions for deep change, healing, catharsis and transformation. We can fundamentally update and upgrade who WE ARE (Mars Rx in Aries) in our relationships (new moon in Libra) and in our society (Jupiter/Saturn/Pluto in Capricorn) right now. This is true both individually and collectively. So take a moment to reflect on WHO that “new you” is- what s/he stands for and how s/he relates and self-expresses. Libra is all about where we as individuals meet and experience life through our interactions with others.
Are we wildly intolerant and dogmatic (lower vibrational Mercury Rx opposite Uranus) or are we incredibly liberated and open-minded through our capacity to observe and acknowledge all sides of something (higher vibrational Mercury Rx opposite Uranus) ? Do we have a ‘win at all costs’ mentality in our life and relationships (lower vibrational cardinal t-square) or do we embrace the learning and adjustments that come from our inevitable exchanges with different people and agendas (higher vibrational cardinal t-square)?
There has never been a more important time to reflect on these questions and gently course-correct, or make adjustments as necessary. If we take one step towards healing our own lower-vibrational issues around these topics, there is a groundswell of support to help us accelerate this healing and improvement. In other words, we are not alone now in feeling the immense weight of pressure in our environment, and it is simple authenticity and self-reflection that can lift a huge amount of this burden off of our shoulders.
2020 is a year when we are greatly supported in energetic as well as ‘practical’ transformation and this is a month when it is important for us to remember that and lean on that guidance. Prayer and meditation are powerful tools to call on for help and assistance. Though the north node is no longer in Cancer (it is now in Gemini, stirring up all kinds of ideological discourse), this t-square is a potent re-activator of the energetics of the past 2 years when the N.Node was traveling through home and ‘past’ oriented Cancer. The potentialities for healing from old wounds is tremendous. This is bold, brave and uncomfortable work, but we are up to it.
When we look inward with the discomfort we feel now, we can heal. When we decline the invitation to look within for what Mercury Rx and Mars Rx are encouraging us to upgrade, we can experience tremendous pressure, and we may get swept up in chaotic external events. Making it a priority to at least ponder how we can improve ourselves and our relationships with a fresh perspective can and will work wonders.
